Skull Bones Mnemonic (Cranial and Facial Bones) | Anatomy and Physiology

joints No Comments »

The human skull bones can be tricky to learn at first in your anatomy and physiology class, but these mnemonics will help you learn the 8 cranial bones and 14 facial bones, for a total of 22 skull bones. I also cover associated bones in the skull, such as the hyoid bone and the auditory ossicles (ear bones).

Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/skull-bones-quiz-cranial-and-facial-bones/

Here’s a neat trick about the skull bones: the 8 cranial bones are all single, except for two pairs of bones (parietal and temporal). The 14 facial bones are all pairs of bones, except for two single ones (vomer and mandible).

Here are the eight cranial bones, with a mnemonic (memory trick) to help you remember them:

-Ethmoid bone (1)
-Frontal bone (1)
-Sphenoid bone (1)
-Parietal bones (2)
-Temporal bones (2)
Occipital bone (1)

To remember them, remember this phrase (make it into a cranial bones song if you want): Ethan’s Fried Spanish Pasta Tempted Octavia.

The fourteen facial bones may seem even more daunting, but these mostly come in pairs, so there aren’t as many as it seems.

-Mandible (1)
-Vomer (1)
-Maxilla (2)
-Lacrimal bones (2)
-Nasal bones (2)
-Inferior Nasal Concha (2)
-Palatine bones (2)
-Zygomatic bones (2)

Here’s a mnemonic sentence (or song) to help you remember the 14 facial bones: My Mouth’s Palate Never Likes Zucchini In Vinegar.

Cranial Bone Mnemonic:

Video Rating: / 5

The skull bones, or cranial bones, and their sutures can be remembered using a simple mnemonic trick in this anatomy animation!

The skull bones consist of cranial bones and facial bones connected by sutures. The cranial bone mnemonic in the video will help you remember the skull anatomy, landmarks, and locations of each bone. The cranial bones include the ethmoid bone, occipital bone, 2 parietal bones, frontal bone, 2 temporal bones, and sphenoid bone.

The cranial bones make up the cranium that surround and protect the brain. This animation will walk you through the anatomy and important features of each cranial bone and the sutures that connect them.

The Skeletal System: Crash Course Anatomy & Physiology #19

joints No Comments »

Today Hank explains the skeletal system and why astronauts Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko are out in space studying it. He talks about the anatomy of the skeletal system, including the flat, short, and irregular bones, and their individual arrangements of compact and spongy bone. He’ll also cover the microanatomy of bones, particularly the osteons and their inner lamella. And finally, he will introduce the process of bone remodeling, which is carried out by crews of osteocytes, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts.

The human skull consists of about 22 to 30 single bones which are mostly connected together by ossified joints called sutures. Its main task is the protection of the most important organ in the human body, the brain. The aim of this tutorial is to elaborate on the bones that make up the skull.

The skull is divided into the brain case, known as the neurocranium, which consists of the skull cap known as the calvarium… and the skull base… as well as the face, which is known as the viscerocranium.

In this video tutorial, we will cover the following topics:
Overview of the anatomy and functions of the bones of the skull;
Brain case and face: introduction to the neurocranium and viscerocranium;
Features of the neurocranium: skull cap (parietal bones, frontal bone, occipital bone);
Features of the neurocranium: base of the skull (sphenoid bone, occipital bone, temporal bone, maxilla, and zygomatic bone);
Bones of the face: maxilla, mandible, zygomatic bone, nasal bone, palatine bone, lacrimal bones, vomer and inferior nasal concha;

Types of joints in the human body – Anatomy & Examples | Kenhub

joints No Comments »

A joint is where two bones meet in the Human body. Without joints, movement as we know would be impossible. After this video, you should find out how many joints in the Human body are you able to identify. Try this quiz: https://khub.me/m0ftb

Oh, are you struggling with learning anatomy? We got the ★ Ultimate Anatomy Study Guide ★ to help you kick some gluteus maximus in any topic. Completely free. Download yours today:

So as you’ve probably already observed within your own body, the bones of the human body work together to create a structural scaffolding to protect the internal organs and to facilitate movement. Every bone in the body articulates with at least one other bone, with the exception of the hyoid bone which is floating up around the neck. Articulation, which is the joining together of two bone structures, is what makes movement possible and the point of articulation between two bones is called a joint. Joints are classified according to the range of motion they exhibit and the types of tissue that holds the bones together.

We classify joints according to the types of tissues holding the articulating bones together. With that in mind, we can describe three distinct types of joints and these are the synovial joint, the fibrous joint and the cartilaginous joint.

In this video tutorial, we will be going over the following points:
– definition of articulation/joint;
– joint classification;
– synovial joints;
– fibrous joints;
– cartilaginous joints;
– classification of joints based on range of motion;
– ball and socket joints;
– hinge joints;
– pivot joints;
– condylar joints;
– saddle joints;
– plane joints;
